DC’s Eat Local First Week July 14-21

Now’s your chance to get together with other DC area locavores and local food activists and celebrate all that is fresh, delicious and sustainable about the local foods movement!

Eat Local First is a local food campaign that begins with a week-long celebration of local food in the Washington DC area. The focus will be on local farms, local restaurants and the organizations and people that are making locally-grown food more accessible in the DC community.

From July 14 to 21, you can dine at restaurants participating in Farm-to-Table Restaurant Week, participate in an array of local food events and celebrate local food with your neighbors at our Farm-to-Street Party. Through this campaign Think Local First DC aims to educate and inspire you to eat local food whenever possible.

Martina and I are excited to be attending the Wednesday A Bigger Future for Local Food session, held at The Phillips Collection on Dupont Circle. This panel discussion, moderated by Flavor magazine, includes Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm (guru of pasture-raised everything) and  Blue Ridge Produce, a new local large scale food hub model business.   We look forward to absorbing as much of the ideas and information we can.

We’ll also be attending this Saturday’s Farm to Street Party which promises local foods, local drink, even local music in an all out fun street party environment.

What a great opportunity to celebrate local! We hope to see you there!

Tickets and descriptions of even more events are available from the Eat Local First website.
